Darrell Huffman's McCaffity Hit Mailer, #2

NOTE: see update at bottom of the page.
This is the second in a series of articles about the negative campaign mailer sent out by the Darrell Huffman campaign about his opponent, Jason McCaffity.

As I said in my first article on the subject, I received a negative campaign mailer about Jason McCaffity and the Kennedale PD.  The mailer had a website address on it that I assumed was back up for the statements made in the mailer.  However, it didn't turn out that way.  This statement:

Which references an incident in which McCaffity is supposed to have let an assault suspect go without arresting, or citing him and which references a disciplinary action of August 30, 2002 in the backup documentation is not supported by any documentation whatsoever, there is nothing in the website that backs this up.

I urge Mister Huffman to put this supporting documentation on the website and notify me with a comment.

If anyone can find back up for this statement in the supporting documentation, please let me know with a comment.

UPDATE: 5 – 20 – 2012 Another document has been added to the Disciplinary Action page.  It is the written reprimand from August 30, 2002. Jason McCaffity was indeed reprimanded for his actions on that day. Both charges, neglect of duty, and violation of the chain of command spring from one failure.  That failure was in the supervision of a subordinate officer. The charges are due to the actions of another officer, not Jason McCaffity. At the end of the letter, the chief encourages McCaffity to view this reprimand as a learning experience that will impact his law enforcement career in a positive manner. In my opinion, this is a light rebuke to a young sergeant, hardly the fire and brimstone REPRIMAND that is conveyed in the negative campaign mailer.

  1. Mr. Huffman can you just let us see your qualifications for the job? All the mail outs are attacks about Mr. McCaffity. Mr. Huffman lied to get his job and now he lies to get another job, That tells you a lot about character and honesty.

  3. Mr. Downs:
I agree with your assessment of the August 39, 2002 letter as "a light rebuke to a young sergeant", especially in light of the fact that, since Chief Rutledge recognized Jason's integrity and character, and his potential to be a great leader and administrator in law enforcement, the Chief was instrumental in seeing that Jason was sent to as many TCLOSE authorized police training courses as were available, more than 2,400 HOURS of training with expenses paid from the Chief's police department funds.

It is easy to see that Jason was being trained and "groomed" to assume the position of Police Chief in Kennedale at some point in the future.

When Chief Rutledge left Kennedale PD, and the new Chief came in, he looked at Jason not as someone to train for his leadership position, but as a potential rival for the Chief's job because Jason was very popular with the citizens of Kennedale, and members of the City staff and Kennedale Councilmen, and well-liked and respected by MOST of his fellow officers, and therefore, through no fault of his own, became a powerful rival in his chief's eyes.

There is ample evidence available, if anyone sincerely wants to view it, that shows there were no valid grounds for Jason's "termination", but instead it was a way for the chief to get rid of his strongest rival for his job.

When Jason applied for emergency family medical leave per federal law, in order to assist me with my rehabilitation after my being near death 5 separate times, federal law required Kennedale to hold Jason's position as Sergeant for him until he returned to work after his 12 weeks of leave.

The Chief "terminated" Jason, using his fabricated excuses, less than 1 week after Jason returned to work.

ALL voters should look at all of the information about all 3 candidates in this race and vote for the candidate with the most experience as an officer (14 years), the most education (BA w/GPA = Cum Laude, and MBA w/GPA= Summa Cum Laude), the most supervision experience (7 years), the most TCLOSE authorized police training courses (over 2,400 hours), etc!

That will be a vote for Jason McCaffity!
