Darrell Huffman's Record

Recent events have made me take another look at the "open" records that have been circulating about Darrell Huffman.  I looked closely at them.  I had questions.  I called Mr. Huffman and asked those questions, he answered.  Using what he told me, and the record I have constructed the following timeline:

11/22/2004 to 9/9/2006, Patrol Officer, Crowley Police Department.
Time: 10 months, 18 days.

5/2/2006 to 10/8/2008, this is the time period, from the day he started with the Tarrant County Constable department, until the day he applied for the full-time deputy constable position.
Time: 2 years, 3 months, 6 days.

The date, 10/8/2008 is the date that Huffman said he applied for the job.  If he had let the date that most people assumed stand, 10/22/2008, he would have given himself 14 extra days.  I note this because he could have, and he didn't.

According to the minimum requirements set forth on the Tarrant County.com website, 30 hours of college is equal to one year of law enforcement experience.  Huffman had 33 hours of college when he applied for the job.  Therefore, another year of law enforcement experience is his.
Time: 1 year.

If these times are added together, 10 months, 18 days + 2 years 3 months, 6 days + 1 year,  they equal 4 years, 4 months and 24 days, or 4 years 4.8 months.

4 years, 4.8 months....7.2 months shy of the five year requirement.  This is the amount of law enforcement experience Darrell Huffman had when he applied for the full-time Constables position.

Why then did Constable Hilger allow Huffman to begin work as a full-time Constable when he did not meet the five years experience requirement?  I haven't talked to Constable Hilger but I believe that as an elected official, he is more accountable to the people of Tarrant County than a civil service worker would be and therefore, his own judgment has larger sway in these matters.  And in the Constable's judgment, Huffman had met the requirements.

Although officially classed as a part-time worker, Huffman had worked a 40 hour week for most of the weeks he had been employed by the Tarrant County Constable's Department.  He even had to take a leave of absence in order to keep from violating the contract he made with the county to not work full-time.

He was hired as a full-time Constable, not because he was a good old boy, as some have suggested, but because he works hard and, by his own initiative, was already trained for the position that he was applying for.

Darrell Huffman is, in my estimation, a decent man and a hard worker.  I will be supporting and voting for Jason McCaffity in the upcoming primary.  Not because I have been swayed against Huffman by any of this, but because Jason McCaffity has the edge in education and executive experience and I think he would make a better Constable.  However, if Huffman wins, I believe that position will still be in capable hands.

Note: This is my take on this subject.  If anyone would like to point out mistakes in logic, reason, or facts, please do so. I believe that the beginning of wisdom starts with the acknowledgement of one's own ignorance. Joel Downs

  2. Jason McCaffitty wants to work on truancy in schools? That is a local police/ School Resource Officers job. Jason sued the HEB school district a few years back.. Jason got FIRED from his police job in Kennedale Police Dept. I find it funny that Jason has to "group" himself with a PAC to get elected. Voters need to understand that his daddy runs the political websites. Jason has an MBA? (Post it then!....you will not see it) He HAS A GED, He couldn't cut it at Trinity or L.D.Bell High School. Jason doesn't want the Constables job to "help" the community....its for POWER!! “absolute power corrupts absolutely” Folks, vote for either Bob Welch or Darrell Huffman.....just not Jason McCaffity. Look who is behind the other candidates.....Jason has to get apartment assoc. to back him instead of real cops of Texas or majority of your Mayors endorsements (Colleyville, Southlake, Euless and Grapevine) or Successful businesses. Please vote wisely! Folks don't get stuck with this guy! Go online and Google their names and find out about them. This effects you in a big way! Get involved with the VOTE!! Vote Now...last day is May 29th.Precicnt-3 consist of Colleyville, SouthLake, Grapevine, HEB and small surrounding cities.

    1. I really love the anonymous post by people who are putting false information about candidates because they have no qualifications to run. Robert, or should I say Bob Welch, it is nice of you to finally show up to something. Truancy is not a local problem, the original jurisdiction is through the JP courts and Constables should be responsible for enforcing it. Not sure what political websites you are referring to but again you are lying! If you are judging who would be a good Constable based on their endorsement list of city council people you should at least check the voting record of the council people you ask for endorsements from. Elections are won by talking to the voters, not endorsements. Your slanderous attacks against me are fruitless and everyone sees right through them. Bob you should really check your sources because when you post about issues you don’t understand your lack of experience shines through. I won’t apologize for having an MBA, or the endorsements of several grassroots organizations including the DFW Conservative Voters green card. If this upsets you I don’t care because they chose the most qualified candidate in this race.

    2. Please keep thinking it's Bob Welch or Darrell Huffman.....I have met both of them and they seem to be gentlemen. You? I have known you for a while and know your charater flaws and don't feel you would support the Constables position in a true way. The Pct-3 people need to do their homework on all canidates. Daffy Duck could be voted into office I wouldn't care.....just not you. You think you are fighting your two canidate....but in reality you are just fighting with your own charater. If you win...Change your ways my old friend.

    3. Kent, you should really focus on your own issues and try to resolve them. Praying will help you get rid of your hatred. Huffman won't be able to offer you a job. You do know that even anonymous posts leave IP addresses don't you?

    4. Wow!! You just let everyone see your charater again.....Do I see a threat from you, trying to ping my IP address and come beat me up? Typical Jason! Threats, threats, threats.....Folks do you see what the people will be getting? And this is just a silly post.Huh....freedom of speech as long as you don't speak against Jason Mccaffity. By the way.....don't know Kent. Ping away!

    5. Mr. Downs
Thank you for letting me voice my opinions and views on your website, as you have. That’s what I like about your views. (Being open minded to all) But I will have to stop posting due to the retaliation threats made by Jason McCaffity to identify my IP address. I hope the voters make the right decision. Thank you!

    6. Typical Huffman camp trying to make something out of nothing again. It is truly unfortunate that you don't take the time to read the post thoroughly before you make wildly untrue accusations again. I will be praying for you.

    7. Anon, what kind of character are you expressing in your comments here?

If Daffy Duck had credentials like McCaffity, I would vote for him if Jason was not a candidate. In the meantime, until Welch and Huffman can obtain the credentials and qualifications that meet or exceed those of McCaffity, they are not viable candidates. Plain and simple. No hate, just logic.

It will be interesting to see how far the negative smear campaign gets the opponents. I suggest becoming visible to the voters at the polling stations. Well, if you can refrain from telling the candidates lies. The only day Huffman showed his face at the polls he took it upon himself to tell the voters McCaffity is a felon. Really? The voters then gave Jason the heads up. Lies started on Huffman's application, and now it meets the same MO of his campaign tactics.

In the meantime, we will continue to help educate Pct. 3 voters and share the qualifications and credentials of the best candidate in the race- Jason McCaffity.

Reply to: "Anonymous" post - May 18, 2012 11:41 AM

To: Mr. "Anonymous" or whomever you actually are:

I do not know your actual identity, at least I can't remember ever being introduced to anyone named "Anonymous", or to anyone who hid his/her real identity behind the name of “Anonymous”.

Be that as it may, you would be well advised to understand the following:

I have the honor of being Jason McCaffity's "Daddy", and was otherwise identified by you as "his[Jason's] daddy[Me]” in your previous post.

Sir, you have made a false and malicious and libelous statement about me, when you published on the World Wide Web your statement “Voters need to understand that his[Jason's] daddy[Me] runs the political websites.”, as I do not now, nor have I ever, run a political website. The implication of your statement, and accompanying statements, was that I run “the political websites and that somehow I had manipulated the “political websites” endorsements in Jason's favor, all actions I would consider to be despicable.

Further, I believe you made these statements as a part of your own malicious plan, and/or conspired to act in concert with other as yet unidentified parties, in your own malicious efforts TO INFLUENCE VOTERS' views in the upcoming election.

I hereby demand that you immediately retract your false, malicious and libelous statements, and also demand a public apology for your actions in order to restore my good name and character!

I am not what would be legally defined as a "public figure", and therefore I have the absolute right to seek redress of any and all damages that your actions, and/or failure to take corrective actions, have caused me to suffer, and/or may cause me to suffer in the future, until such time as my good name and character have been completely restored to me, and/or until I have received sufficient monetary compensation for your malicious actions towards me, and punitive damages large enough to prevent you from ever committing these sorts of transgressions in the future.

If you do not meet my demands, and take all necessary actions to immediately restore my good name and character, then I shall seek redress of damages through the judicial system. I have not yet researched all of my causes of action under which I may recover damages from you, because I anticipate that you will do the right thing and meet my demands, but, should you fail to meet my demands, I will take action accordingly, without regard for my chances of recovery!

As I do not know your true identity, I obviously do not know if you even possess enough assets from which I can recover my damages, but I WILL PURSUE all legal actions and avenues of recovery that are available to me, your ability to pay notwithstanding.

“Good name in man and woman, dear my lord, Is the immediate jewel of their souls.
      Who steals my purse steals trash; 'tis something, nothing;
      'Twas mine, 'tis his, and has been slave to thousands;
But he that filches from me my good name
Robs me of that which not enriches him,
      And makes me poor indeed.”
      Iago, Othello Act 3, scene 3, 155–161

I urge you to carefully consider your actions, and this NOTICE to you, and make the right decision in this instance.

If not, then I'll see you in court.

      Very truly yours,
      Robert D. McCaffity

  3. Apparently both of my opponents are too scared to run on their own merits and have taken to spreading false allegations about me through Facebook and by way of political mail piece lies. I find it humorous that they are so scared that I will win they feel the need to spread lies. These are malicious and outright fabrications. One even claimed I don’t have an MBA. I received my MBA in 2011 from Ottawa University in Kansas.

Here is the breakdown of experience and education.

    McCaffity
    MBA-Ottawa University
    BA-Law Enforcement Administration-Ottawa University
    46th Police Command College-ILEA
    89th School of Police Supervision-Ilea
    Master Peace Officer Certification
    Police Lieutenant
    7 years Command Experience
    14 years Police Experience

    Huffman
    33 college hours
    Intermediate Peace Officer Certification
    Deputy
    No supervision experience
    4 years full-time 2 years reserve

    Welch
    26 college hours
    Basic Peace Officer Certification
    Patrol Officer
    No supervision experience

    These are the facts!

  4. Mr. Downs, Police Lieutenant? Lieutenant for a reserve Officer? No such thing! Godley PD? He is a "LT" because of personal friend/Chief Mr. Downs, please ask MaCaffity to provide his High School"Diploma"....He can't/won't provide because he doesn't have one.
Welch is a good man with good business sense and former Police Officer.
Huffman as you said: Hard worker and is a Sgt. in the Constables Office and has the endorsements from:
Zane Hilger - Tarrant County Constable Pct.3
William D. Tate - Mayor of Grapevine
David Kelly - Mayor of Colleyville
Jim Story - Mayor of Bedford
Mary Lib Saleh - Mayor of Euless
Jerry Crowder, Tarrant County Constable Pct 1
    C. Shane Wilbanks, Grapevine Mayor Pro Tem, City Council, Place 1
Tito Rodriquez, North Richland Hills City Council
Tarrant County Law Enforcement Officers Association
    Bedford Municipal Police Association
    Arlington Police Association PAC
Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas (CLEAT)
Chad Wilbanks, Former Executive Director of the Republican Party of Texas

He knowns how to communicate with the leaders of our community.

    Thank you!

    1. Mr Anonymous your ignorance precedes you. First you question my college degrees and now you talk about high school after my MBA is posted and you question my position. I guess the tactic is to throw everything you can think of and hope it sticks. It would behoove you to focus on your own life since it is obvious you derive pleasure out of attacking others. Don't work yourself up to having a nervous breakdown similar to the one you had a few months ago. You are obviously a friend of Welch or Huffman since you claim to have met them because I know you haven't met them at any Republican meetings or at the polls. They are the definition of a true RINO since they have only recently become active in the party. The first thing true Republicans do is look at voting history. Good luck in your future smear campaigns.

  5. Oh! And as far as Huffman or Welch running on "their own merit"......Jason is riding on the coat tails of a PAC group. Go to the polls and get that little piece of paper with a list of the PAC group they are trying to get you to vote for. McCaffity's Dad owns some political websites, in order to manipulate the voters views. Look at the overall picture on what he has tried to run for in the past. Bedford City Council and lost, Tarrant County Constable-Lost. There is a reason he loses. I know Jason.....I do not trust him.
I'm not with Welch or Huffman....just looking for the right guy for the people.
    Thank you!

  6. Hi anonymous, you don’t know me. Are you really that insecure? I ride no one’s coattails except my own experience and education. I am proud to be endorsed by the DFW Conservative Voter PAC, Tarrant Republican PAC, Tarrant County Apartment Association PAC and several other organizations. They chose the only TRUE conservative in the group. The only one that didn’t endorse me was the Tarrant County Law Enforcement Association because Huffman is a member and his Chief Deputy was on the board. Go figure that one. By the way, that decision was even a split decision. A coward hides behind anonymous posts.

  8. Man the level of viel vitriol coming from the Huffman campaign is amazingly sad. I'm working on a different county wide campaign, and see what is going on at the polls, signs being stolen etc. The level of ugliness in this race far exceeds any other in NE Tarrant. One of the Huffman folks called other poll works last week the "enemy"...and they were not working for Jason's campaign either. Just simply a nasty campaign and group of supporters. You should be ashamed of yourselves.
